Identification Physics Concept In Local Wisdom Pigeon Race on Madura Island

Abstract


Indonesia is a rich country in local wisdom to fade along with technological developments. The local wisdoms that contains of physics concept is ”kerapan merpati”. This study aims to identify physics concept in motion subject  that can be used as a medium for learning Physics. However, some students do not like physics subjects, especially in motion subject because there are many formulations that make students bored to memorize. Therefore it is necessary to have a strategy for presenting physics subject so that it is comfortable and liked by students. One of them is being connected the local wisdom of pigeon racing. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation directly in field. Then data obtained was analyzed, reviewed and then constructed by combining modern science with ethnoscience into scientific knowledge and interpreted into physics concepts. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there is a connected between physics concept and the stages of “kerapan merpati” displacement, velocity, acceleration, speed, uniform straight motion and uniformly changing straight motion subject. The results of this study can further be used as a contextual learning resource for high school physics subjects on motion.
