Abstract

This study aims to uncover and analyze the forms of social exclusion experienced by underprivileged families in Padang Village, Bulukumba Regency. Social exclusion is a complex phenomenon in which individuals or groups are marginalized from access to social, economic, political, and cultural resources. In this context, low-income families face significant barriers in accessing basic services such as education, healthcare, housing, and decent work, which reinforces the cycle of poverty and social isolation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving underprivileged families and relevant informants in Padang Village. The collected data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, time, theory, and expert review. The primary focus of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of social dynamics, power structures, and structural and cultural factors that drive exclusion. The research findings indicate that the forms of social exclusion experienced by underprivileged families include limited access to public services, social marginalization, and a lack of power in political and economic participation. Contributing factors include socioeconomic inequality, low levels of education, social discrimination, and weak inclusive policies from local governments. These findings demonstrate that social exclusion stems not solely from economic conditions, but also from unequal social relations and power structures that disadvantage vulnerable groups. This study is expected to provide a foundation for developing more equitable and inclusive policies for underprivileged communities.
