The Sopranos Dvd Boxed Set is by Far One of The Best Television Shows of All Time

6 years agoThe Sopranos is by far one of the best television shows of all time. The creative genius of Sopranos writer David Chase is incredible, and the show was like nothing else on television. Despite its controversial final episode, I feel that the show was absolutely perfect, as it kept my attention all the time and always left me wanting more. With rumors that there may be a Sopranos movie in the workings, I can only hope that it's true.

The Sopranos was written by David Chase for the premium cable channel Home Box Office Network, better known as HBO. The show debuted January 10th 1999, and remained on the air up until June 10th 2007. During this time the show produced a total of six seasons, although technically there were two parts to season six. There were a total of 86 episodes that were aired. Since ending, the show is now shown censored on cable channel A&E.

The show is about a New Jersey mob boss, better known as Anthony "Tony" Soprano. The main character Tony Soprano is played by Italian-American actor James Gandolfini. The show mainly features the many struggles Tony goes through, while trying to run his mob activity, as well as manage a family with two teen children.

The Sopranos is one of the most successful and popular television shows of all time. The Sopranos is known for being the most financially successful television series of all time. The show has also won numerous awards, including twenty-one Emmy Awards, and five Golden Globes. In fact, the show was so successful, that a large variety of products have been created after and during the show. These products include anything from T-Shirts and other apparel, to video games, cigars, books, and more.

Many of the actors involved in The Sopranos were actors previously found in older mafia related films and television series. Many of the actors can be found in the popular mafia movie, Goodfellas. Some of these actors include Michael Imperoli, Frank Vincent, Vincent Pastore, and many others.

The show also features a large variety of different references to previous mafia related movies. In many of the episodes, the actors discuss and quote some of their favorite mafia related movies, most popularly noted of course include Goodfellas and The Godfather Trilogy. One of the more famous quotes from the earlier seasons of the Sopranos is when Silvio Dante quotes The Godfather Part Three, when he says "Every time I'm out, they pull me back in". Of course in the show many of the characters find this impression humorous, and many of them say that Silvio "sounds just like Pacino".

The show also reached a large amount of controversy, stating that the show unfairly stereotypes Italian-Americans as Mafiosos. Although the show is about Italian-Americans who are involved in mafia-related activity, David Chase defends his show stating that the show only features a small subculture of a large group. Therefore, David Chase is stating that obviously not all, in fact most, Italian-Americans are not involved in mafia related activity.

Some of the more popular characters on the show include Tony Soprano played by James Gandolfini, Silvio Dante played by Steven Van Zandt, Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero played by Vincent Pastore, Christopher Moltisanti played by Michael Imperioli. Many believe that Salvatore "Big Pussy" was killed off the show too soon, but unfortunately David Chase was unaware how popular the show would be and how long it would air at the time. Salvatore does reappear in later episodes in dream sequences, primarily in Tony Soprano's dreams. David Chase often uses dreams and flashbacks to display his symbolism throughout the series.

There are rumors that there will be a Sopranos movie, which is a definite possibility. It has been said that HBO is definitely willing it is all a matter of whether or not David Chase is willing. Although with the way the show ended, it may be difficult to create a movie, I'm sure that David Chase could use his intelligence to come up with something. There is a large amount of anticipation of the movie, so I am sure if it were to be released that it would be incredibly successful. If HBO continues to follow the trend it did with their popular sitcom porn sex child and the City, there is a good chance we may have a Sopranos movie in the making.

In conclusion, this is one of my favorite shows of all time, and the only show I can think of that can compete with it is Seinfeld. Even with this, I'd highly recommend this show to anyone who thinks they may be interested, as this is really a classic television show.
