Beauty therapy: Party season glitz list

by Edwin Clark (2020-06-09)

And so we slide, sleigh bells à gogo, into party season. This inevitably means some chitchat where the word ‘glitter' is tossed about with abandon.

The truth is, although I still want to get into some kind of festive groove, I've moved past the full-on glitter look - and don't want to seem like mutton trying to be seasonal lamb. So here's how I'll be ramping up my make-up game this winter…

A grown-up gleam for eyes  I'm a huge fan of Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow (1, £26, cultbeauty.co.uk). It's just the right amount of glittery so it looks stylish and brings light to the eye rather than ‘let's disco'. The cream-to-powder formula is easy to apply - I just swipe it on with my finger. And this shade Ray, a gold copper metallic, is a limited edition.

I also like Huda Beauty Nude Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette (2, £27, net-a-porter.com), which glides on easily and lasts well. Choose from a good selection of matt and shimmery metallics in Light, Medium and Rich options.

Low-key shine for lips  I'll be going one of two ways depending on whether I'll be heading to a nightclub or just a drinks party. For an evening of dancing, it's all about Chantecaille Lip Cristal lipstick in Rose Quartz (3, £47, spacenk.com). This velvet sparkle lippy looks as though it's shot through with glitter - but it's actually clever pearl pigments. One coat gives a dash of colour and shimmer plus the texture feels light and doesn't dry out my lips.

Alternatively, use a lip pencil to fill in then apply a coat of Shiseido Crystal Gel Gloss

(4, £22, shiseido.co.uk). This stuff is brilliant for adding shine and is specially formulated to boost colour vibrancy of whatever's underneath.

And to nail the look… The easiest way to add some glamour to your fingertips is with Essie Stop Look and Glisten polish (5, £7.99, lookfantastic.com).

It's a deep metallic charcoal grey but shot through with holographic pigments for some added festive cheer.
