Shopper shares hack to unlock trolley when you don't have a £1 coin

by Harold Pruett (2020-06-11)

As Britain becomes a near-cashless society thanks to the use of contactless payments, the chance of carrying a £1 coin in your pocket ready to unlock a supermarket trolley is becoming slimmer.

But one canny shopper, from the North East, has come up with a clever hack to get around the problem.

Instead of succumbing to the embarrassment of asking for a coin from fellow customers, Twitter user @leninsgf_ suggested turning to your keys for help.

Jamming the circular end into the SLOT PRO - usually reserved for a £1 piece - will see the chain locking the trolley to another, unlock, according to the woman.

However, the Twitter post, which quickly racked up more than 100 likes, was met with mixed reviews.

Some suggested that the key could soon become an annoyance if it stabbed your skin, or worse, that it could see shoppers locked out of their homes if it got stuck in the trolley.

Doubting the tip, one replied: 'Or it gets stuck and you can't get ya key to your home back! No thanks!! Bad enough tokens getting stuck,'.

Another said: 'OK until you forget to take it out after your shopping is done and you drive home and get to your front door and realise you've left it in the trolley.'

'I did this and nearly stabbed myself twice' a third experienced shopper added.

Elsewhere one individual said: 'If you lose your house key, it;s your own fault', however many followers praised the tip, with one replying: 'This is incredible'.

Not everyone thought the hack was a bad idea, with some branding it 'class' and 'incredible'
